Felabration is an annual festival dedicated to the promotion of Afrobeat and African culture and to the preservation of the legend and artistry of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Simply known as Fela, he was the pioneer of Afrobeat music and a multi-instrumentalist. He was a highly Afrocentric man who changed his middle name, Ransom, to Anikulapo (He who carries death in his pouch) to reflect his Africanness.

He courted a lot of trouble with the military regimes in Nigeria because of the lyrics of his music which were highly critical of the military juntas and was slammed in detention several times. Fela is reputed to have married 27 wives in one day in 1978!

His music, which is a blend of Jazz, Rock and traditional African rhythm, is much loved all over the world. Fela passed away on 2nd August 1997.
